At a Fashion Show (part two) : Some Snapshots and What I Wore
I guess that title tells you all you need to know about the content of this post! The event was the fashion show that Nick and I went to at the end of March. I posted some photos of the show itself here, if you care to take a peek. The gala event was held at a new hotel, The Ritz-Carlton, located in the downtown core, so we took a quick streetcar ride to get there.
Bits and Pieces : March 2013
Hi. Here are some pictures taken during March, that didn't find a home anywhere else on the blog. Thanks for checking them out.
Awaiting the Arrival of His True Love
Here by popular demand, is Eddie (again!). I had thought that by posting some shots of him already this week, that I should ease off on pictures of the cat and fore-go our usual 'Saturday is Caturday' post, but you, dear readers, made it clear that Ed is always welcome on this blog. For your love-of-cat, both he and I are thankful.
I took these shots the other day as I was making dinner. Those stairs go down to our entrance way, and since I was the one taking the pictures, it is clearly not me who is being waited for. No, this animal waited there for Nick to get home from work for the better part of an hour. And when that door finally opened, he went bounding down the stairs to chirp his hellos.
Food Friday : How to Make Candied Ginger
My husband Nick is a big fan of candied ginger, so I used to purchase it for him at a fancy candy store. But this was reserved for special occasions because it was quite expensive, and each package only contained a small amount.
So, to treat him for Easter this year I decided to make him some myself. And wow, were we ever happy with the results. He loved it and kept exclaiming that he couldn't believe that I had made it.
And you know what? I was very easy to do! Anyone can make delicious candied ginger at home. All it takes is time, in that it has to dry out in a single layer, overnight before you put it in a jar. (I had to hide mine on the top of the bookcase in the guest room. I was certain he would discover it because the room smelled delightfully of ginger. But he didn't find it and was completely surprised to receive it on Easter morning.)
I made a pound of ginger, but the recipe can easily be doubled. To give you a feel for how much ginger makes up a pound, the plate I have the peeled ginger on is a sandwich place, which is seven inches across.
