Friendship and Fresh Donuts at Little Nicky’s Coffee Shop (Closed)

UPDATE 2021 : The building that Little Nicky’s was in has been torn down, making way for a condominium, so it no longer exists in this location.  I’m not sure if it will reopen somewhere else in the city or in the new condo building once it’s completed.

What more can one ask for in a winter-time coffee date, than a nice cup of something hot, some freshly made mini donuts and a good friend to share them with?

Julie and I got together for just that recently, at a place neither of us had been before, Little Nicky’s Coffee on Queen Street West, at Peter Street (directly south of The Gap that’s on the corner there).

I had a latte and Julie chose a London Fog. If you’re like me and were unfamiliar with this drink, it is Earl Grey tea, steeped with a touch of lavender, served with steamed milk and a bit of vanilla, and sugar if you want it. Julie let me taste hers and it is delicious.

We also shared a dozen of their mini donuts, dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar, that were so fresh that we saw them coming down the conveyor-belt of their cool donut making machine.

Julie had a knitting deadline to meet — I laughed out loud when she told me that, but it makes sense since she is the creator of one of Canada’s most popular knitting blogs, Knitted Bliss — so she worked on her mitten as we chatted.

It was a pretty perfect lady-date, for sure!

Thanks for taking a look. I hope you have a great weekend.
