Time with my Sister : Gifting, Thrifting and Eating

    c and ed

It was my sister Camille's birthday recently so the two of us got together for an afternoon celebration.

She came over to our place first, where I gave her a gift, that she seemed to like as much as I'd hoped she would.

I decorated the present with a feather topper, as previously described in this post.

Hello! Here's a post that will appeal to those with a sweet tooth, who get down to the King and Queen Street West part of Toronto.I'll begin with a wonderful chocolate shop called Soma Chocolatemaker, located at 443 King Street West, on the south side of King Street West, just west of Spadina. These pictures were taken on Valentine's Day, while I was there picking up some treats for Nick.Oh my goodness, their selection of delicious sounding confections is show-stopping. I stuck with the bars and bags that I found of the shelves, being replenished with freshly made stock as I shopped. A sign encouraged me to use a basket in order to avoid melting the chocolate with my hands.

Valentine Crafting : How to Crochet a Heart Garland

how to crochet a heart garland decoration for valentines day
Happy Valentine's Day to you, if it's a holiday you celebrate. We quite enjoy it ourselves. The table has been set with the heart-printed tablecloth and we plan to cook dinner together later, while enjoying a bottle of champagne.Speaking of hearts ... perhaps the crocheters out there would like to learn how to make a garland to go with the season and beyond? Hearts are my favourite shape, so this little number will probably hang around for some time yet. It will also work for birthdays and anniversaries, and would even make a cute decoration for a child's room.

How to Make a Heart-Shaped Decoration for your Wall

With Valentine's Day around the corner, perhaps you have an urge for a heart-shaped decoration to hang on your wall. Using a pre-cut piece of wood as a base and some quick drying acrylic craft paint, you can have this finished in under an hour. It's an easy little craft resulting in something that you'll be able to reuse year after year.

A few weeks ago I received a notice from the AGO that they were screening the new documentary about artist/photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, called "Mapplethorpe : Look at the Pictures", at their in-house theatre, Jackman Hall.Having seen an exhibition of Mapplethorpe's photographs at The Guggenheim at an impressionable age, his work, particularly his portraits and images of flowers, had a great impact on me and played a major role in the reason I got my first slr camera back in the early nineties, beginning a lifelong passion in photography. Also, I recently read and absolutely loved Patti Smith's book, Just Kids, about her experiences with Mapplethorpe in New York City during the late 60s and 70s, so I was totally into seeing this movie and clicked right over to get tickets. I was met with a bunch of all-caps messages stating it was "SOLD OUT" across the board. I was disappointed but, of course, life goes on.Then, a few days later, my friend Meghan emailed to say that she had a couple of tickets for the 2pm showing on Saturday, and wondered if I'd like to go with her. "Yes, please!"(Note : I now see that they've added more opportunities to see the movie and there are tickets still available for future screenings. It runs until February 11 - see here. Or, you can see it via HBO via their site here.)We both thought it was an excellent documentary, and were left raring to discuss it.
