Some like it hot .. Yes please!

The one food-plant that I am attempting to grow this year, aside from herbs in pots and some wild leeks that came with the garden, is a little hot pepper plant.

Having grown up with a father who likes his condiments hot, and who frequently challenges me with his most recent batch of homemade hot pickled peppers, I’ve grown quite fond of spicy!

Nick likes it hot too but can’t believe how I can eat some of the peppers that I love.  Yes, sometimes it hurts a bit, but in a good way.

I have tried a large variety of prepared sauces and always come back to my favourite one, called Matouk’s (the version with the green label).  If you like it hot and are able to find it, I recommend you give it a try.  I particularly like it along side a daub of ketchup, with a grilled cheese sandwich. Let me know how you make out!

We get it in Toronto at Carlos’ House of Spice at 190 Augusta Avenue in Kensington Market.
