Hello! With Valentine’s Day this week and Easter just around the corner, it appears that chocolate season is upon us. These Chocolate Martinis, with four different flavour options, would make the perfect cocktail to celebrate those holidays, but would also be enjoyable any time of the year.
They’re made with Vodka and Creme de Cacao liqueur, and either left plain chocolate or made a little fancier with the addition of Cointreau (which is orange flavoured, pictured), Goldschlager (which is Cinnamon flavoured) or Creme de Menthe (for a mint flavour).
Since Vodka is the main ingredient, complimented with lesser amounts of sweet liqueurs, these are slightly sweet, but not too sugary. If need be, the sweetness can be dialed up or down by the amount of liqueur used.
The mint version was suggested by my friend Julie, after I told her about these delicious drinks. I haven’t had a chance to try that variation yet, but can attest to the goodness of the orange, cinnamon and plain versions. I plan to make the mint one, though, so will update this post once I have.
Here’s the recipe :
- One part Vodka
- 1/2 part Creme de Cacao
- 1/4 part either Cointreau, Goldschlager OR Creme de Menthe. Use additional Creme de Cacao for the plain chocolate version.
- Finely grated dark chocolate for garnish (optional)
So, for one generous drink or two small ones use :
- 2 ounces of Vodka
- 1 ounce of Creme de Cacao
- 1/2 ounce flavoured liqueur (or more Creme de Cacao)
Double the quantities for two generous drinks (as pictured, with a little bit left over for a top up). Or triple etc for a party.
Put vodka, Creme de Cacao and choice of flavoured liquer in a beaker with a pouring spout. Add a couple of ice cubes to chill it slightly (optional, as these are very nice served at room temperate, too). Shake or stir and pour into glasses. Top with grated chocolate — this melts very easily so I suggest using a spoon to transfer it and not your fingers.
Mix up a batch and store the extra in the fridge, where it will last a long time. If planning to save some, remove the ice cubes before putting it in the fridge, or don’t use any.
I can’t wait until the time comes when I can have Julie and some other lady friends over for a “Chocolate Martini Bar” party. (For readers in the future, this was posted during the pandemic quarantine period.) That said, while these might appeal to women more than men, men who like a sweater cocktail would be more than welcome to partake, as well!
Cheers and thank you for reading. I hope you’re doing well during these trying times.
