Much Love Monday : Pink Sugar and Freshly Ground Coffee

Here is my post for Much Love Monday, a way to start the week off on a positive note, organized by Anna at her blog Much Love. The guidelines are to post a picture with a heart in it somewhere, and a bit about something you love.

Last week I made some pink sugar by adding 4 drops of food colouring to 1/3 cup of white sugar in a jar. Then giving it a really good shake. I left the lid off overnight to dry it out and then gave it another shake to break up any lumps. I wanted pink this time but next time I will try another colour, like red and blue together to make purple.

My story of love is about coffee. More specifically, about having coffee which was made from freshly ground beans. We had been without a coffee-grinder for several months and have just gotten a new one.

It is a strange/funny story about how our last one kicked the bucket. It was actually relatively new but met its demise in a two-dollar coin. We aren’t sure how it found its way into the grinder but think it must have been via our (one time) favourite place in the market, where we bought freshly roasted beans, scooped into a bag and paid for by the pound. Turns out our coffee grinder was definitely not meant to grind coins. We were confounded by the mystery. Weird, right?

Anyway, we now have a new one and it is wonderful. Aside from my love for the divine aroma of freshly ground coffee and the taste of the perfect cup, I love the way it comes to me every morning. Nick is an early riser and on most days, my first memory of wakefulness is the sound of a delicious cup being delivered to my bedside. It is those small things in life that keep it sweet.
