Much Love Monday : Dare to Wear Love 2012

    dtwl program

I've mentioned that we were at the closing gala night for Toronto Fashion Week on Saturday night, however with this post I'd like to talk more about what it was about. For the past three years, an important event for our fashion week has been the 'Dare to Wear Love' event. This is organized by Hoax Couture designers, Chris Tyrell and Jim Searle, and benefits The Steven Lewis Foundation whose goal is, "turning the tide of HIV/AIDS in Africa by providing care and support to women, orphans, grandmothers and people living with HIV and AIDS. Since 2003, we have funded over 700 initiatives, partnering with 300 community-based organizations in the 15 African countries hardest hit by the pandemic."

The reason we were invited, aside from believing in this very good cause, was that Nick developed their website at Daretowearlove.com

These photos were taken at the reception party before the runway show, during which guests were treated to tasty hors d'oeuvres and nice drinks.

    New Haircut

    new haircut 22

After thinking about doing it for a while I finally got my bangs cut on Thursday. I sat down in the stylist's chair and closed my eyes while he made the first cuts and when I looked in the mirror I was quite surprised. Shocked would be a good word. I had a moment of haircut regret and then just let it go.

When I got home, Nick kept calling me Catherine and asking me where his wife was!

So, to remind you of the before ....

    Thrifting Treasures

    shot glasses

When I visited my mom and dad a few weeks ago, my mother gave me this lovely thrifted gift of shot glasses, each being a different colour. They'll be great for a patio Jagermeister party this summer!

My mother, sister and I have always enjoyed going to thrift stores, yard sales and flea markets together. So, on the Saturday afternoon of my recent visit, mom and I tried our luck at a few of the stores in her town, to see what we could find. It was either that or go to the casino, which we do every once in a while, but we decided that thrifting would cost less and would still reap that 'feel-good' sensation of winning!

    Here's what I got ..

Eddie Here to Wish You a Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Eddie was happy to have St. Patrick’s Day land on Caturday this year. We're not certain of his heritage because he came to us from the streets, but he might have a some Irish in him! Anyway, he chose to wear some green for you today.

Food Friday : Fresh Spinach Soup

Never one to miss the opportunity to suit a theme, I thought I'd go for a green recipe on this Friday before St. Patrick's Day! This is a smooth spinach soup that tastes a lot more decadent than it is. Yes, there is butter in it, but there is no cream. The creamy texture is achieved by adding potatoes, low-fat milk and sour-cream. (I guess sour-cream is a kind of cream, but it's not as rich and fat-laden as is whipping cream, which many cream soup recipes include.)
