Now I ask myself, 'What was I thinking when I thought I could do a photo series that involved taking a picture of a number, every day of the year beginning on January 1st?'
It was hard enough finding one through ten! I guess I had high hopes.

I was once told that I shouldn't talk about the weather as much as I do. The person doing the telling was my husband Nick, and at the time he stated that Canadians, in general, talk about the weather too much, and that it was boring.I should further explain why it was that he was concerned about me being boring. For years, we, along with various guest musicians, did a weekly hour-long live broadcast on-line. The purpose was primarily to perform music but since there shouldn't be too much dead-air in broadcasting, we also had to do quite a bit of talking between songs.Nick has a load of experience in this type of thing, and he felt that the chat and jokes would be much more interesting to an audience if they were spontaneous and unrehearsed. He is a risk-taker by nature and thrives on the element of surprise. These shows were not recorded therefore once something was said, it lasted only a moment on the airwaves, so in his opinion we could say anything, as long as we were being entertaining and not offending or hurting anyone. What I realize now is that the element of surprise probably played a large part in keeping people coming back to listen to us every week. But, I found being ready to speak live without rehearsing in advance pretty hard to do. I admit to cheating a bit, by keeping a notebook handy with a few notes jotted down on what might be interesting subjects to discuss.I often found myself suddenly and unexpectedly having to do all of the talking for periods of time, while Nick tuned his guitar or adjusted the settings on our equipment. So, at such times, when I had to think fast, I was often tempted to turn to the weather as a topic. In Canada, with our dramatic weather extremes, there was always something to talk about. But Nick was right in pointing out that this was boring subject matter and once he pointed out that I was doing it, I agreed to try to cut it out. Then my 'not talking about the weather' became an on-going joke.

Particularly at this time of the year, there's no doubt that you have some boxes of tissue placed about your home. Have you ever looked at the box and thought, 'How pretty'?They are making those tissue boxes look really nice these days. Last summer, there was a series of boxes with the coolest of mod designs and colours, and around the holidays there were boxes adorned with holly and berries. Every time I emptied one I thought to myself, 'I should make something with this'.But it was this cute frosty bird pattern that finally caused me to actually act on this thought. Yes, Nick was a bit annoyed when I told him I was saving an empty box, at a time when our home could really use a purge of useless things. So I had to move quickly or lose my supplies to the recycling truck that is making its rounds this morning. Not much more chat is required for this simple do-it-yourself project, so I'll just let the pictures do the talking.

Hi! Happy Monday. I Thought I'd do a 'Pictures Throughout a Day' post showing you what Saturday was like around here.
I am rarely up early enough to catch the first light of day, but for some reason I sprang out of bed at 6:30 on Saturday and caught the loveliest pastel coloured sunrise. It was so odd to see me up at this hour that Nick wondered if something was wrong!
He usually has his coffee alone in the mornings but on this day he had company, making me a cappuccino with his special recipe for
spice sprinkles.

You know the saying 'The Dog Days of Summer"? I just looked it up and was surprised to see that this term has been in use for much of recorded time. It was written about as early as 1552, and is described as the time in July and August when the star called 'Sirius' is rising in the northern hemisphere. It is the brightest point in a constellation called 'Canis Major', which means 'large dog'.
And all this time I thought the hot days of summer were called 'The Dog Days' because it was so warm that all dogs wanted to do was lie around and sleep.
So, based on my incorrect interpretation, I was just about to pose the thought that maybe the cold winter days, when cats only want to sleep all day, might be called the 'Cat Days of Winter'. But now I know that this would be nonsense.
