    DIY Fathers Day Card 02

This week-end we celebrate the day dedicated to dads ... Father's Day. I must admit that I find it much more of a challenge creating a card for a male than I do for a female. All my usual flowers, bows and cute stickers just won't work for a man. Here's what I came up with for my dad. What do you think ... Is it manly enough?

This technique can be used for any occasion and using more feminine colours would make it fine for a female too. I used a pre-made striped card but you can make the base for the card yourself too, with either a solid or patterned paper. Then cut a tag shape out of a plain piece of card stock in a complimentary colour, and punch a hole in the top with a hole punch. Then cut a smaller piece of card stock in another complimentary colour. I happen to have some scissors that make a fancy edge so I went around this second piece with those, however it's not necessary.

There Was Dancing in the Street!

    Portuguese Parade 10

You just never know what you'll come upon at any given time around here! These shots were taken on Saturday morning, when Nick and I happened upon a parade in full force while we were walking to the post office. There was no way we were getting around it so we joined the crowd and watched.

It was going along a strip of Dundas Street West which is known as Toronto's 'Little Portugal', and was in honour of the Portuguese national holiday which pays tribute to Luis de Camoes. He was a poet and the anniversary of his death is marked by Portugal Day.

The colours and enthusiasm of the festivities was impressive. The groups of dancers were so well practiced that they could twirl and jump, and move along the parade route at the same time. Apparently there had been live bulls but we missed that part.

Why Loulou is Great: Three Posts From Her Archives

I am happy to have my on-line friend Shakti Dove with us here today, hence the blush inducing title!

    So, here's Shakti .....

Hiya friends! I'm popping over here today to share my love for Loulou with you. Since you're here you obviously like her as well but I'd like to point out a few of my personal favorites from her blog. All you long time readers, let's revel in the goodness, shall we? And you new readers, well, maybe these are new-to-you posts so all the better!

I love when Loulou shares her coffee making secrets. (A couple of posts are here and
here.) It certainly wasn't the first post I read on Loulou Downtown but I remember reading her instructions on how to make a cappuccino at home and thinking
"Good grief, this woman is going to change my life."

I worked at a coffee shop for nearly 5 years so I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to the drink but I haven't really mastered the art of making it at home. The fact that she shows me how to make a decadent treat in a quick way that required no expensive, space hogging machinery at home has totally won me over.

I also love Loulou's craftiness! Sewing on cards, a genius kitty bed, and these easy-peasy tassels. I still haven't tried this DIY (which is shameful) but it's so freaking clever I can hardly stand it.

Eddie Likes the New Watering Can

    ed and watering can 07

After years of using a crappy plastic watering can that had a crack in it and dripped water everywhere, we decided it was time for a new one. We went for this one. Not only is it my favourite colour but it is designed so it's easy to use and easy on the wrist, and it's guaranteed for 20 years! All in all, I am happy with the new can.
