It is Take Tuesday on the Rocks

Time for the second to last post of the Take Tuesday photography series, organized by Shakti Dove. This week's prompt was Ice, and as Shakti pointed out, when I saw this one on the list for mid December, I was certain I would have some pretty snow drifts and icicles to show you by now. Not. We have barely had any snow yet. But that certainly doesn't mean we won't. Surely it is lurking to hit us with a bang later!

Riding the Train to a Place Filled With Memories

    waiting for subway train

When Nick and I went to see a comedy show recently, we took public transportation. Here are some pictures I took during our subway train ride home.

The evening was filled with blasts from the past ...

At the time that Nick and I first met, I was living near this subway stop, and had stood on this very platform five days a week, every week, for two years.

    Dinner at our Place

Every year we have dinner with our friend and the drummer in our band, Chops. We have all been working on music together for over six years now so have grown close, having spent a lot of time together. But little of that time is passed just hanging out, relaxing and talking.

So he came over last night and Nick treated us to a delicious and nutritious dinner of Baked Filet of Sole, breaded with Panko and homemade breadcrumbs, topped with a lemon, wine and herb sauce. The side dishes included roasted carrots, parsnips and potatoes, and steamed green beans and broccoli. We also had a chopped vegetable salad with a dressing that he made using the Blueberry Vinegar I made in the summer (seen here).

For dessert he served Apple Pie made from scratch, with a scoop of French Vanilla ice-cream.

It was a really good meal and we all had fun. As Chops put it, we had 'put him in his happy place'.

How to Make an Ornament Display Hanger

I have a soft spot for vintage Christmas ornaments, but we don't always put up a tree, so I try to come up with interesting ways to display them. Here is a wall hanging I made, using branches and twine. It can be hung on the wall as I have done, or in a window or suspended from the ceiling. You could even make one for baby's room, and hang it over the crib. While I have shown it with my collection of delicate vintage red and gold ornaments, you can hang any collection of ornaments on it.It is an easy way to bring a little festive decoration into any room in your home.To Make an Ornament Display Hanger :Supplies: Branches or dowels. Twine, yarn or thin ribbon. Crochet Hook (Optional). A bit of sticky tape.Make a chain with the twine, by crocheting it if you have a hook. The stitches will come out more evenly using one however you can also do it by hand (as shown in the accompanying illustration). Then make a shorter chain, from which you will hang some of the ornaments. Leave ends of about 8 inches at either end of your chains, to use to tie them to the branches.

Out to a Friend’s Comedy Show

    finale

On Saturday night we went to see a comedy show organized by our friend Julie.

    It was really great!
