    Themed Thursday : Leaves

I like to go about taking photographs to suit a theme as though I am collecting images. I'll take one picture of a subject one day (such as a bird which was last week's theme seen here), then I'll have it stuck in my mind and seem to find photo-ops to fit that topic wherever I go! So I have begun to dedicate my Thursday posts to displaying the various groups of photographs I have taken that fit a given theme.

For this week, inspired by the first falling leaves, I selected Leaves as my topic. It could have been called Maple Leaves, because alexcept photographs would fit, except for the last one but I just couldn't resist including it in this series. Because I love it.

    A look at Liberty Village

Last week I went out for my usual exercise walk and it was so nice out that I just kept right on walking, ending up in a new part of the city called "Liberty Village". It is considered new because a whole bunch of condo buildings are going up in the area, which is located west of the city core. However, it's actually a very old area, having been first developed way back in the late-1800s. In between, there were decades during which it was considered a 'brown' area, in that it was all closed-up with little or no electricity or services being provided there. It was a 20 acre ghost-town of old crumbling buildings.

Now you would never recognize it as such, as it seems all brand-spanking-new and brimming with life, with young pretty people all over the place. But there are a few buildings left standing from the old days, which survive to tell the story of the area. Interestingly parked in the middle of the whole place is this red building, which is obviously ancient but with no signage whatsoever, is a bit of a mystery.

    Barbeque with the Guys

Nick and I are musicians in a band called The Rails, along with our buddy Niall. The three of us have been performing together for 6 years, most recently doing a regular show on-line streaming live off the floor, with an avatar show within the virtual 3-D avatar world called Second Life. Though we have played a gig pretty well every week since I began this blog, I haven't talked about it here. It's not that it's a secret or anything, but I understand how music is such a personal taste and our loud punky sound is not to everyone's taste, and it's not my intention to be try to get you to listen to our music with this blog. If you are interested in checking out the band however, I'll put some links at the bottom of the post.

The reason I bring it up with this post is that last Wednesday, after our early evening show, we had our annual barbeque together. Nick made a lovely meal of beef steak, baked potatoes and broccoli. And even though we see each other every week, we ended up partying together well into the night and had a fun time! It was one of the last evenings of the year with warm enough weather for hanging out outdoors so we took advantage of it!

    Turkey Time

We had a great time with family and friends (both human and furry ones!) at my sister Camille and her boyfriend's place for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. They have recently moved to their own home and this was the first family gathering to be held there. It was also the first time my sister has ever cooked a turkey! They put on an excellent party in deed.

It’s Caturday! Eddie has his Thanksgiving Dinner.

Thanksgiving in Canada is this week-end, which is a lot earlier than in the United States. This is because it gets colder sooner here and therefore the harvest is earlier. Though seriously, you'd never know it by the temperature out there today! It is gorgeous and very warm. We were just out for a walk and when I got home all hot, I changed into a tank-top and shorts, and popped open a nice cold beer!
