    A Writing Kit for On-The-Go

At the risk of sounding very old fashioned, I must begin this post by admitting that I don't have a cell-phone. I did have one for a long time, but didn't find I needed it that badly so when it broke, I just didn't replace it. Now, I have never had a smart phone, and if I did, I'm sure I would grow to love it, but for now, I am happy with my land-line and beloved ipad.

The one thing that I did miss after giving up my cell was the ability to leave myself notes on it. So I began to carry a small notebook and pen with me. And since I always wanted them to be neat and easy to find, I put them inside a tidy little zipped up case.

You might think that I'm the last adult around not to have a cell, but lo and behold, my sister doesn't have one either. So as a gift I made her this little 'Writing Kit for On-The-Go' similar to mine.

First I found the little leather pouch. It's actually a change purse, but was quite perfect for what I needed.

    Thrifting Finds

I went on a thrifting date with my sister on Friday. We had intended to go to a few stores, but the first one we went to (Value Village) was so full of good things that we ended up calling it a day after we had finished there. Here's what I found ...

    Game Playing : BioShock 2

Something I don't talk about much here, but play regularly, are video games on our XBox. Just as always having a book (or two) on the go, I always have a game that I am in the midst of playing.

Aside from being really fun, I've read that they are very good exercise for your brain, and have been used to help in the recovery process of stroke victims. I don't doubt it, as they require lots of quick thinking, puzzle solving, strategic planning, and dexterity.

(All that said however, even though I don't choose to play war or sniper games, most do involve shooting and life/death situations of some sort. They are very much adult entertainment.)

Sitting Pretty For a Wee Bribe

As I begin this post I am reminded of a friend's recent FB status update. To quote her, "Potty training success, finally! Now all we need to do is wean the kid off of jelly beans for every trip to the toilet!"

And while our Eddy Boycat is a child of a different sort, little bribes also work really well with him.

A couple of weeks ago (here) I wrote about some delicious treats that Ed received for Christmas. These pictures I am showing today were taken in between the shots I used to illustrate that previous post. All I had to do was offer a goodie and I was gifted with these big dreamy cat eyes!

It works like a charm every time. I say the word 'treat' and that head turns around so quickly that it's a wonder he doesn't get whiplash. I get such a response even when he is (pretending to be) asleep.

Out for Lunch with a Friend

On Sunday I met my friend Nyla at one of the oldest restaurants on Queen Street West. It's called The Queen Mother Cafe and opened in 1978. (The building it is in is much older though, having been built in the mid 1800s.) All those years in operation and it's still one of the best. If you go on any work day at lunch time and you might not get a table.
