Caturday Goes to the Dogs : Meet Saul

    saul the dog 01

This sweet gentle dog, named Saul, has been walking with his human in our neighbourhood for a long time now, even before I called it home, as he was living here first. Over the years, I've watched as he has gone from being a dapper little trotting dog, to the dignified old fellow he is today who now takes his time, stopping for a sniff here and there.

Since he has slowed right down now and with winter coming, I don't think he'll be doing much walking in the snow. And if I type more about good old Saulie I will become sad and depressing, so I will end by saying that I was glad to have my camera out as he was passing by the other day.

Food Friday : Preserving Fresh Herbs

    sage hung to dry

This has been a week with quite a few hours spent outside, getting the yard and garden ready for winter. One pleasant task was gathering up all the herbs left in our potted herb-garden. The scent was wonderful. Did you know that smelling fresh Rosemary can help with head-ache symptoms? I didn't have a head-ache but the aroma of it did bring a feeling of well-being!

Out to a Concert Asteroids Galaxy Tour

On Monday night, Nick and I were joined by our friend Meghan, to go see a band called The Asteroids Galaxy Tour. I have loved this band, from Copenhagen, for a while and was so excited to see/hear them live, as they tour their new album, Out of Frequency. We had a blast, dancing for their entire set. Almost a little too much fun for a Monday night!

It is ‘Take Tuesday’ and the Theme is : Open Land

I shall begin by saying that I'm not trying to be overly clever with my photos for my entry in the “Take Tuesday” Photography themed photo series, topic is "Open Land".When I saw what was to be the subject of this week's post, I had to really think about where I might find some open land somewhere around me.Then, the idea to use some pictures I recently took of an interesting archaeological dig came to mind. Why, this is quite literally "open land".

I'm not sure if it's the same in all cities, but here in Toronto, whenever construction is proposed in a spot, a team of archeologist must first examine the site. At this particular spot, there was a parking lot for as long as anyone, except the longest term residents, can remember. I recall being taken downtown to see a play at the theatre across the street when I was a child, and parking the car in that lot. What the recent dig exposed was evidence of a home that once stood there. Since Toronto is a relatively new city, the Victorian Era homes, built between 1850 and 1900, were the first structures ever to be built on the land. Before that this area was a forest.Included in these pictures are shots of the dig itself, as I was fortunate to pass by just as the archeologists were there. Then there are a couple of shots of the land covered over again, once the research had been completed.

Bits and Pieces : October 2012

Hello! Here is my monthly post of the pictures I took during the month, that I thought were interesting but that would otherwise not find a home in any other post. I hope you like them!
