    Cat at the Table

    eddie at the table 03

Eddie uncharacteristically decided to join us at the dinner table the other day. He had already eaten so was just there for the company.

He has taken to sleeping on that chair, which is usually pushed under the table. He is not really a cat who hides and we pretty well always know exactly where he is, most often in plain site not far from one of us. But before we realized this chair was his new sleeping spot (they change regularly) we spent a good half hour looking everywhere for him one evening. We called for him outside twice, thinking we might have forgotten he went out. Closets he never goes into were checked, as were the spaces under the beds.

I finally found him, fast asleep on the chair completely hidden by the tablecloth. Now we just check if there are any heavy chairs around the table when we're looking for him.

The chair is from my childhood home and I am reminded of a time when I was about 13. Ours was a catholic home with church attendance on Sunday being a family rule. Not to be sacrilegious and to each their own, but I hated it. So one particular Sunday while the family was going out the door, I was very well hidden, laying on two of these very same chairs, tucked under the dining room table and covered by the tablecloth. I remember my family looking everywhere for me and calling out. I did finally show myself and go to church, because the alternative would have been to be grounded for a week, and no 13 year old wants that. I did get kudos from my siblings for the excellent hiding spot though.

Knowing this, you'd think I'd have known exactly where to look for Eddie when we couldn't find him.

Dinner at the Home of Friends : Chris and Kim

k and c getting dinner ready

Yes, we were a very fortunate couple last weekend, having been treated to two lovely dinners at the home of friends. I showed you our first dinner out on Friday, here, and today's post takes us to Sunday night, visiting with our new friends Chris and Kim (you 'met' them at our place a few weeks ago in this post). I must mention that there is a third resident at the place too, their beautiful old dog named Henry. It was actually because of Henry that we all now know one another, because the boy was being walked when Kim and I first met and began chatting.

Dinner included a wonderful pasta dish, a kale slaw-style salad, with pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries (Nick has already decided that he is going to try to recreate that one). Dessert was a piece of homemade chocolate cake with vanilla icing. It was all so good!

Here is what I got on my latest trip to the thrift store (Value Village). They have a program in which you get a card stamped for every $5 you spend there over a certain period, and so this time I had a completed card and therefore everything I got was 30% off. It was a happy thrifting time.Even with the 30% off though, my frugal self told me to put something back that I now realize i should have taken. Now I have the 'thrift score that got away' regrets. There was a vintage square pressed-glass tray/plate thing that I liked but didn't realize by how much. Oh well, I still got some great things without it.We'll start with the Decorative Items :This cobalt glass dish, which I believe is a planter, but could also be a shallow vase, has no markings, but it is thick and heavy and in perfect shape.

Dinner at the Home of Friends : Chops and Leslie

    c and l

You've met our friends Chops and Leslie when they came over to our place, shown in this post. Today I have the pleasure of giving you a little look at their happy home, after Nick and I went there for dinner on Friday.

This is a couple we've known for more than 8 years, after first meeting Chops through the music scene. He's is an awesome drummer (you can see a post about one of his shows here) We used to perform with him a lot and we will do so again relatively soon, as after taking some time away from music we are now working on a new project.

This dinner was more about friendship than it was about music though, and our comfortable relationship with these people meant for an evening that was filled with the laughs and easy conversations that come with years of knowing one another.

Snuggly Kitty : A Crocheted Toy

    crocheted cat doll 01

This is Snuggly Kitty. He's a crocheted toy I made for the little girl of our friends Julie and Guy, who gave him his cute name.

I mentioned going to the yarn store called Romni Wools last month (in this post) and this is what (who?) I made with what I found there.
