Out for dinner with a New Friend

Last year in October, while at this event, a friendly person named Julie said hello and we struck up a conversation. This led to a discussion about blogging, and the fact that she kept one too. Hers is here and features her mad knitting skills.

Thanks to reading and commenting on each other's blogs we kept in touch and got to know one another, seeing one another a couple of times over the summer. She is a very creative person who is not only a very talented knitter, she is also a published poet. Nick and I had the pleasure of attended her book launch in July (here) in July. I have really enjoyed her book and am in awe of the creative way she gets her thoughts down on paper. Then later that month she came to the ladies' get together I had (discussed here).

And last Thursday we went out for our first one-on-one outing. (You might recognize the restaurant we chose from when I was there with another nice new friend, Andrea (here, a couple of weeks ago, the Pizzaria Libretto.)

Thrifting and ReGifting : Some Secondhand Things I’ve Been Given

My love for secondhand things extends to receiving gifts of previously loved items, so I was a happy lady this summer when I was given these used offerings from both my mother-in-law and my mother.
    gifts from mother in law
I'll start with the things given to me by Nick's mom, which I brought home in my suitcase after our visit to the west coast in June.I didn't get the whole story behind this beautiful jet necklace, that had been my mother-in-law's and that she thought I would like. I tried to decline taking such a pretty item from her, but she insisted that she wanted to give it to me. So, I was thrilled to accept it.

At the Art Gallery : The David Bowie Exhibit

    bowie is forever poster ago

I've mentioned before that my friend Meghan has a membership to the art gallery, among other things this means that she and a guest get to see all the traveling shows on the day before they open to the public. And so it was that I was the lucky guest and the two of us toured the David Bowie exhibit at the AGO on Tuesday evening.

I arrived a bit early so I took some pictures outside.

There Was a Harp and an Ark in the Park

Not to mention all the creatures that bark were in the park too. Since it's time for my weekly pet related post, let's begin with these pictures of dogs.

The scene of the woman taking pictures of her cute and well behaved dog was an enchanting one to happen upon.

Then there was this guy (who coincidentally looks like the same dog) who really wanted to play chase the stick.

    Five Eff Words

I had five things I've been wanting to talk about and realized they could all be described with a word that begins with F.

So no, I won't be swearing at you today. Rather I'll be talking about things that have made me smile lately.
