Interesting Building : Confederation Life in Toronto

ass="aligncenter size-full wp-image-7285" title="Confederation-Life-03" src="http://www.loulou.to/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Confederation-Life-03.jpg" alt="" width="640" height="480">I took these shots of the Confederation Life building back in March which is why there is a bit on snow in some of them. I was motivated to take the shots because I found the shape of the building so interesting, especially in contrast with the modern sky-scraper beside it. My purpose for being in this neighbourhood at Yonge and Richmond Streets, was to go to the department store called The Bay, that's shown to the left of the picture with the cars. I had a gift card to use from Christmas, and since the things I got with it were on sale, I still have some money on that card, so am itching to go out there again soon. It's a good walk from where I live so a trip to The Bay is doubleplusgood .. new threads and some exercise!The building was completed in 1892, after the architects Knox and Elliot won a contest and had their design selected. The style is called Romanesque Revival architecture. At the time it was built, and as you can see in the print below, it was one of the tallest buildings in the city. Apparently it was nearly gutted by a fire in the 70s but was restored after that. I'm calling it the Confederation Life building because this was the firm who commissioned the building way back then, but it has since had other owners.

Out to a Concert : Cults

Last Wednesday night, Nick and I went to see the band called Cults at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. It was a great show and we had a whole lot of fun. I was first turned on to them by hearing their song "Go Outside", which they played perfectly at the show. The whole thing was excellent including a cool light/slide show. We both loved it!

Much Love Monday : On Cider and Growing Herbs

I'm joining the group over at Anna's blog Much Love again this week for Much Love Monday, where writers share a photograph that includes a heart and a story of something they love.

My photo(s) with a heart is of these glasses of cider we recently clicked together to celebrate an achievement that is not mine to tell about, but which I happily partook in a glass of bubbly to commemorate. It wasn't a good time to pop open a full bottle of champagne though (as you really should finish off the bottle once you've opened it or else it goes flat, and what's the good of that?!). Instead we shared a can of sparkling pear cider and toasted with that. Have you ever tried pear cider? .. we get a product here that is called Sir Perry and I find it to be very nice. Also at only 6% alcohol content, it's better suited to an afternoon toast when we have other things to do that involve having a clear head.

These particular glasses were made more special by the addition of frozen pomegranate juice, which turned our drinks a pretty pink and added a hint of extra flavour.

Hello :) Hope you are having exactly the type of Sunday that you like best. All is well here. We are going to our second concert of the week tonight, so are taking it easy today.

I Don’t Even Know Her Name but I Love Her Just the Same

For my 'Saturday is Caturday' post this week I have a guest cat to show you. She lives down the street and I see her often and we always have a nice visit, complete with her walking along with me for a bit. I know she recognizes me as her friend too because if I've missed her on my way by but she sees me, she will come running over to say hello, mewing her tiny little mew.
